The Gossen Digisix's primary purpose is as a
digital exposure meter that delivers precise
and reliable measurements of ambient incident
or reflected light.
The meter offers an instant digital reading
that can be transferred to an analog reading
wheel, so the photographer can easily see all
the shutter speed/f-stop combinations that
correspond to the given readings. The shutter
speeds on the ring range from 4 minutes to
1/2000 seconds while the f/stop display ranges
from 1 to 32.
The Digisix can display exposure values
ranging from 0 to +18 in one third increments
at ISO 100. It comes with the ability to store
values measured, so that the photographer
doesn't have to keep taking measurements.
The light meter has an ISO reading range of
6 to 3200. It does take several steps to change
the ISO setting, so the Digisix is best suited
for those who shoot using one film speed at a
time instead of those who constantly adjust the
speed of the film.
The meter is small in size and able to slide
into a pocket to be carried around easily
during shoots. Its thin plastic case is
incredibly sturdy. The Digisix is powered by a
3-volt lithium battery that is included with it
and that is very long lasting.
The readings on the large LCD screen are
easy to read and the analog ring indicates
aperture and shutter speed combinations at a
glance, eliminating any headache or stress that
may result from a difficult to read meter.
The tiny Digisix is extremely sensitive to
low light conditions and is great to use to
take measurements at dusk or when it is even
darker outside. Due to its small size, the
meter is great to take on the road for
traveling photo shoots and is suitable for
studio use (although it does not measure flash
light) and perfect for use outdoors. What's
more the Digisix will work in extremely hot or
extremely cold temperatures. It is able to
function in temperatures ranging from 14F to
140F (-10C to 60C).
The meter provides reliable, accurate
readings. The bulb for taking incident light
readings is sliding and non-removable, so it
can't get lost. The incident bulb is perfect
for getting the right reading on a subject,
making the Digisix ideal to use for
portraits.
The Gossen Digisix's compact size combined
with its reliability, sensitivity and
convenient extra features make it a great meter
for those on the go or who do not have one
built into their cameras and want something
that is accurate without being too bulky. Its
basic function and usability make it perfect
for beginners and seasoned professionals
alike.
